Your parrot to a babysitter?

on

What to watch out for

Imagine: your suitcase is ready, your passport or ID card is on the table, and you're ready for vacation. But one thing still worries you... Your parrot.
Will he feel comfortable with a sitter? Will he get the right food? Will he miss you?

This is familiar to many bird lovers. Because a parrot is not a pet you can just "temporarily" place elsewhere. It is a sensitive, intelligent animal that experiences your routine and presence as a basic requirement.

Still, it is possible to travel with peace of mind if you make the right preparations. In this blog, I help you get started with clear explanations and a free checklist.

Why good preparation is so important

Parrots are creatures of habit. They sense changes perfectly and sometimes react strongly. An unfamiliar sitter, new sounds, or different food can cause stress, reduced appetite, or behavioral changes.

That is why it is important that you act as a bridge between your parrot and the temporary caregiver. By providing clear information, you ensure that your bird feels safe and comfortable, even when you are not there.

What should you arrange before you leave?

A good handover prevents misunderstandings and gives peace of mind to both the sitter and your parrot. Below you will find the most important points to consider:

Feeding instructions

Specify exactly what your parrot eats, how much, how often, and in what way, and prepare portions if necessary. Also mention which foods should NOT be given.

Daily routine

What is his fixed schedule? When does he get attention? Does he have favorite rest moments or games? Clarity prevents unrest.

Medical information

Note if your parrot receives medication, has allergies, or special sensitivities. Also add the contact details of your bird or veterinarian.

Behavioral characteristics

How do you recognize stress in your bird? What does he like, and what does he dislike? These details are invaluable for a sitter.

Emergency number or contact person

Make sure the sitter knows who to contact in case of doubt. This can be you or a trusted backup.

Tip from Malenthe

Let your sitter get acquainted with the daily food.

Many parrots show new behavior with other caregivers. By maintaining the same food, their digestion and mood remain stable. For example, you can stock up a bit extra on his or her favorite reward and prepare (daily) portions.

Good preparation gives peace for both

At GreenParrotShop, we know how special the bond with your bird is. Letting go is not easy, but with attention and love, you can give your parrot the care he deserves. Even when you are enjoying the sun.

Do you have questions about natural food, preparation, or what exactly you should take with you?
